L-Tyrosine
The body uses L-Tyrosine to make dopamine. Lack of dopamine and/or inefficient usage of dopamine by the brain, is thought to be one of the main causes of many ADHD symptoms.
L-Tyrosine was one of the main supplements that allowed me to stop taking prescription ADHD medication. (Not that that should necessarily be your goal, but it might be an option.)
The “NOW” brand is my current favorite. It really packs a punch. I can take a lower dosage and still get the same effect, as compared to some of the other brands.
Protein
I take one of these protein supplements every morning. I buy based on what flavor I feel like having and which has the best price when I order. Protein really helps to wake up my brain and get it functioning at peak levels in the morning.

Magnesium – The 4th most abundant mineral in your body, and necessary for over 300 functions, including nerve function and energy.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) estimates that 68% of American’s are magnesium deficient. Other estimates put it closer to 80%, so it is likely that you too are magnesium deficient.
When I am deficient in magnesium I feel jittery, jumpy, and anxious–like “I want to crawl out of my skin”. “Hyperactive” would be another way to describe it. I also get insomnia when I’m low in Magnesium. So, if you’re feeling this way, you might look into magnesium supplementation.
NOW Brand Magnesium Citrate is my go-to brand and type of Magnesium. Feel free to experiment with different brands and Magnesium types because every body is different.

Phenylalanine
If L-Tyrosine, doesn’t work for you, you might try Phenylalanine, which is another amino acid. It works for some people when L-Tyrosine doesn’t.
